In general: It's a tool for proving that digital information is older than a certain date.
In particular: It's a way to demonstrate that a video isn't an AI-generated fake.
Hashdate stores cryptographically-secure hashes on the Ethereum blockchain. This allows anyone to verify that a given file already existed by a specific date, and isn't a later creation.
In the future, we expect accusations of AI forgery to be commonplace. You can use this tool to prepare a defence, by creating proof that images or videos already exist now — before AI becomes good enough to fake them.
